1 - Grease
Grease is the most important product to ensure the proper functioning of a reel. In fishing shops, you can find special reel grease. It is important to use this grease and not another. It is suitable for lubricating the small parts that make up a reel and reduces friction between these moving parts.

2 - Oil
In fishing shops, you can also find special oil for fishing reels. This oil, since we are dealing with small mechanics, must be very fluid and not thick.
3 - Screwdriver
A set of flat and star screwdrivers allows you to dismantle all the screws that you will encounter. Generally, a medium star screwdriver, a small flat, and a large flat are sufficient. Depending on the models and brands of reels, other models of screwdrivers may be necessary.

4 - Flat wrench
Often, a 10-millimeter open-end wrench is the tool used to remove the reel's crank.

5 - Degreaser
The degreaser is not mandatory, you can very well clean your reel without. But, for an optimum result, if you have it on hand, you might as well use it. To clean the parts in the best way, you must use a degreaser and not a degreaser, you must not make the mistake. Degreasers are more aggressive on metal and plastic, so do not use them to clean or lubricate a reel.

6 - Rags or paper towels
To clean up the grease, you should have rags or paper towels dedicated to this. The main thing is that they should be lint-free, so as not to leave foreign bodies in the reel.
7 - Toothbrush
A toothbrush is also necessary, it is used to clean the teeth of the pinions, or to wash the places difficult to reach.
8 - Exploded view
Reel drawings are often available by searching the internet. Sometimes, manufacturers provide them directly in the packaging of the reel. Having this drawing at hand allows you to understand how to disassemble and reassemble the reel. It also allows to have the references of the parts, in case one of them is defective.

9 - Workspace
A clean, well-lit table makes it possible to work properly with these small parts and not to lose any.

Once you have all of this in hand, you can start maintaining your casting reel.
