Opening of the trout, a family history and transmission

The trout opening is a good opportunity to meet between generations. It's been 7 years now that every beginning of March, grandfather, father and grandson have been pacing the banks of our wild streams. A passion shared in family.

The appointment of the opening to the trout

Like every year, it is an appointment that we do not miss with my son and my grandson. We leave our salty shores to go and say hello to lady fario on our small Breton rivers. These small wild rivers are located in what is called the coast of the Legends.

These are in fact the freshwater parts of the three coastal rivers that are the Ildut, the Benoit and the Wrac'h. Coastal rivers in fact, with a high population of salmonids. Sea trout, salmon and of course farios frequent these waters. We are mainly interested in the wild farios, in the source part of these coastal rivers. Here, there are no releases, they are only local strains, with a different dress according to the watercourse practiced.

Fishing with toc

Our technique is simple, we fish only with toc, with pretty worms of banks which we collect the week before. I keep them in foam with a little coffee grounds, or a few drops of aniseed concentrate. The waters of these small streams are often troubled at the opening, especially if it rained just before. The olfactory side is then a plus to decide.

The equipment consists of rods of about 3.30 m, with or without inner line. The covered reel is also a plus. The line body is in 14/00 and the leader in 12 or 10/00 depending on the clarity of the water. A fine iron hook in size 8 or 10, crushed barb will receive a nice worm. Two flashy colored markers spaced one meter apart complete the rig. We do not sink the lines, the weight of the worm is enough to make it go down the current in a natural way.

Waders and backpacks for the snack, we go down the stream in the morning for several kilometers. After the snack break, we go back up the other bank to the starting point. The farios are numerous on these wild courses, they are systematically released after the photograph, from where the use of crushed barbs.

Ode to nature

It is also a lesson of nature that we take all three during these few shared days. We often come across different inhabitants of the local wildlife. The coypu, of course, who sow traps on the banks, we have to be very careful with the holes they dig everywhere.

It is also the nesting period for the green collars, we have to be careful with the nests hidden among the reeds. Deer, hinds, foxes, hares, even geese once, cross our paths. It is always a pleasure to see this diversity of life along the banks. We spend the day chatting, laughing, sharing these too short moments with pleasure.

A bouquet of daffodils and beautiful memories

This year it will probably not be an outing between guys, my little girl is now old enough to accompany us too, a little bit of softness in this world of brutes ... At the end of the session, a bunch of daffodils will be picked to please grandma and mom and to excuse us for not bringing back any fish for the evening meal, no-kill spirit...
