The Bone BVC 664H casting rod, like all the rods in the range, is very light, you would think you were holding a lighter 7/28 gram model, but it's really a 10/40 gram model that you are holding.

This lightness, as well as its well-sized handle, makes it really pleasant to use, especially for power fishing. On the aesthetic side, Bone's travel range always keeps its sober look, with a raw black blank, not varnished. This kind of blank has the advantage of keeping all the resonance of carbon, however, it is more sensitive to shocks and it is advisable to be more careful not to break the rod.

Anyway, even under their fragile appearance, Bone rods are really very strong, durable and designed for hard use, with the advantage of the 4 strands construction! As for this multi-strand construction, which Bone has mastered, it is really undetectable and the rod reacts like a single-strand!

Use

This rod is very versatile, its fast action and its length of 1.98 meters, allow you to use it on all types of lures, and more particularly with swimming fish like jerkbaits minnow or surface sticks. Lures which require a good reactivity in the animation.

Even if it is rated with a power of 10/40 grams, its strong point is that it is very comfortable with small lures and I will adjust this rating between 6 and 35 grams. Moreover, its resonance allows to have good sensations, even on small fish, and to detect the slightest touches.

It is a good rod to look for freshwater fish species between 1 and 5 kilograms, up to 10 kilograms in a punctual way, around the world. You can fish with light techniques for fish like pike, black-bass and peacock-bass.

To accompany him

In order not to lose the advantage of this rod which is its lightness, a casting reel in size 100 is to be favored. Concerning the braid, a line power of 10 to 30 pounds, according to the desired use, is to be envisaged.

The rod is very solid, it is really possible to fish with strong braids, without degrading the quality of the cast, ideal for fishing in crowded environments.

My opinion

Once again, it's a no-fail on the part of Bone for this 4-piece casting rod. It is light, well proportioned, well balanced and has a nice action, versatile for a good number of lures, which is what we are looking for with this type of travel rod. For freshwater use, it is perfect!
