Shells, baits to use
Just like worms, shellfish are also consumed by many fish. Bottom and rock fish are looking for them and they are real delicacies for them. The majority of shellfish such as cockles, clams or mussels are quite fragile on the hook and need to be salted to harden them and obtain a better hold.
You will be able to use them alone, in clusters, in plume between them or even coupled with a worm. Baits to be used in summer on triggerfish, sea bream, mackerel, sea bass or umbra and on whiting, cod and pollack in beautiful bites in winter periods. The round or circle hooks will be used to escher cleanly preferably fresh and salted. However, frozen shellfish can be used to make nice bites even if they are, admittedly, a little less fragrant and attractive.
The main shellfish that you will use are those that you will find locally, because fish are used to eat what they find on their feeding grounds. The dykes, the rocky places rich in various baits or even the old oyster beds are real hunting grounds for sea bass and sea bream which come to fill up at each tide.

The different shellfish for fishing

The harvest of shellfish
Nothing is more fun than combining business with pleasure. Indeed, a good fishing party on foot with your family to collect your shells will delight young and old. They will be found on the rocks for mussels, limpets, periwinkles, crepidulas and whelks while you will have to dig the sand or the sandy-muddy substratum to find the bivalves which can be spotted thanks to their typical holes. The razor clams will be dislodged with salt that is put in their hole and that makes them come out at high speed.
The shellfish are also a sure value for the search of many fish and will find a well-deserved place in your bag for your fishing trips in the sea.
