Fishing for big pike in Sweden is a dream for all lure fishing enthusiasts. Let's discover together a unique and magical lake which contains a very beautiful pike population.

Sweden, the country with more than 90,000 lakes, is a top destination for pike fishing. Close to Töcksfors in Värmland county is the Foxen lake. This lake of about 80 kilometers surrounded by spruce and pine forests, holds huge pike and many other treasures.

Two main periods can be distinguished:

  • Springtime where you will find pikes in shallow areas, in or very close to the reed beds. It will be necessary to fish with swimbaits or very lightly leaded rigs. This approach is remarkable because the attacks can also take place on the surface. It is a perfect season for fly fishermen to explore the numerous reed beds and grass beds with streamers.

  • The end of the summer and the beginning of the autonomous where the fish will concentrate more in deeper areas. The fishing will be done with leaded soft lures that will have to be presented near the schools of forage fish. The approach will be different, but just as technical. Pelagic fishing is possible at this time and allows to target record fish provided you have the right electronic equipment.

Pike are not the only species present on Foxen. Indeed, the lake abounds in beautiful perch and trout. Don't forget, these species are also very interesting to fish with "lighter" equipment and will keep you busy during those moments when the pikes will sulk your lures.

In addition to this exceptional pike fishing, the area around Foxen Lake is beautiful. After passing the "populated" area where you will see the famous Falun red painted cottages, you will quickly find yourself in the deep nature.

It is not uncommon to come across beavers not far from their impressive lodges, to see ospreys circling around your boat, and even to see elks eating the young shoots on the trees. Töcksfors is a town of barely 2000 inhabitants where you quickly feel at ease with the locals, who are welcoming and very kind. The campsite on the north side of the lake allows you to stay 50 meters from the pontoon, perfect for not losing fishing time.

A young French guide is installed there and can propose you an organized stay, which will allow you to come with your hands in your pockets.
