I have tested... / AP-X shad a lure for live or sharpshooting big pikes

Sharpshooting, or live fishing, has revolutionized big pike fishing, particularly on large Alpine lakes. Some lures are now specially designed for this technique. Such is the case with this new AP-X shad from Awpexmonsterbait.

Introducing the AP-X shad

As its name suggests, the AP-X shad is a shad lure that measures 25 cm and weighs 128 grams bare on the scales, a beautiful baby.

The lures are delivered individually in rigid plastic packaging, eliminating any risk of deformation during storage or transport.

The young Awpexmonsterbait brand currently offers only this model of lure, available in 10 different colors. It also distributes the associated lead heads, also delivered individually. There's a choice of 3 weights: 40 grams, 60 grams and 90 grams.

The lead heads have been specially designed for this lure so they adapt perfectly to its shape. The result is very harmonious. In the often translucent waters of these large lakes, this can be an important detail.

They even went so far as to change the density of the material so that the 40-gram head has the same volume as the 60-gram head. The 90-gram head, on the other hand, has a very tapered shape to facilitate descent.

The heads have a ring underneath for attaching an armament or for adding ballast if required.

For my part, I prefer to use classic, no-frills rigs with a size 3/0 triple hooked to the shank of the jig head. For example, a VMC model without barbs to protect both fish and angler and facilitate handling.

Water test

Of course, these lures require very specific equipment. It's essential to have a rod with the right power and a long butt for comfortable casting.

The first visual impression is very good, this lure swims perfectly. It has good rolling action and will undoubtedly interest our pike friends.

Fishing is very difficult on this lake, as usual this year. The fish detected are rare and it's complicated to interest them. We made several attempts, alternating with our tried-and-tested fish. All to no avail. In the end, it was this new shad that gave us the best results, in Wakasagi color and armed with 60 grams, with a few nice fish, and even a big one to finish.

This shows us that the material is quite resistant to pike teeth and that regular repairs will ensure a long-lasting lure.

Of course, this lure, originally designed for sharpshooting, can also be used for classic linear fishing.

The test was therefore validated in these difficult conditions and the boxes a little more weighted with these new weapons, which have now been adopted.
