A 2 hook set-up
A Fireball is composed of a lead head with a "tractor" hook to hook the fish and an "assist" hook connected by fluorocarbon to the Fireball to increase the chances of stinging the fish when they seize the fish.

The ideal fish is the squid
The best livebait for Fireball fishing is squid, but as they are not present on our coasts all year round, the use of other livebaits such as sarran or girelle also works well. The squid must be placed on the tractor hook from the back and the assistant must be placed in the siphon. On the contrary, for a squid for example, it will be necessary to prick it in the upper jaw without damaging the brain which could kill it, the assist will be pricked in the back at the level of the dorsal fin again without touching the vital parts of the fish.
Assisted fishing with the sounder

The objective is to present our live around the rock heads in depths ranging from 20 to 120 m approximately. The use of a depth sounder is therefore essential. Ideally, it is necessary to make a first contact with the bottom then to go up 4 or 5 meters to make it more easily visible from far by the predators and especially to avoid to hang the bottom. The vibrations created by the fish will attract predators who will come and seize their prey violently. The Fireball must be very strong to penetrate the extremely solid mouths of dentex and paddlefish.
A fishery that presents some nice surprises

Fireballing is the most effective technique for targeting large benthic predators (fish that live on the bottom), but it can be used in between waters and it is not uncommon to find trophy fish such as amberjack, cuttlefish or tuna.
