Muskellunge fishing in Quebec
Locally, in Quebec, the vast majority of muskie fishermen fish only by trolling. As a result, in the store shelves, we find lures adapted to this technique, such as large wobbling spoons, spinnerbaits and very large soft lures heavily weighted. In short, lures that are not really adapted to a classic casting/rolling search. I don't practice trolling, so I won't talk about this technique. Fighting
The small subjects are very explosive, you would think you were dealing with small barracudas, really! It is surprising for a freshwater fish!
During the fight, the big subjects adopt a heavy defense and give the maximum of themselves from the beginning. This means that they are more of a sprinter than a long-distance runner. Therefore, as it gives all it has, it is necessary to avoid making the fight last and always keep them well in the water after their capture to ensure a return in its element in the best conditions. Even if its aspect can let think the contrary, it is a very fragile fish, more than the pike, in particular by strong heat, which it does not appreciate.
Distribution
Muskellunge are a fairly uncommon fish and not all environments are suitable for them.
In Quebec, it is mainly found in the southwestern regions, such as the Laurentians, the Outaouais or around Montreal.
