CB One is a Japanese company founded in 2004 by Mr. Orito and Mr. Hayashi specialized in the design and manufacture of fishing tackle for sea fishing and exotic fishing. Among the products offered by CB One we find rods, wooden surface lures (ayous wood), Jigs as well as terminal tackle, assist hooks or fighting harnesses, all positioned on the high-end segment. Here is a small review of the must-have products of the Japanese brand.
The Enfinity range, very high quality rods for Topwater
Among the wide range of rods offered by CB One, there is the Enfinity range, currently offering 5 models of rods specially developed for Topwater with power ranging from PE3/80g casting power to PE8/160g casting power. All these rods are built with the best components and include Fuji titanium guides (the top of the range from Fuji), a Fuji DPS reel seat and a top quality EVA foam grip.
The mechanical behavior of these rods is characterized by a regular action in order to be able to bridle the beautiful fish while keeping a certain power at the butt. They are rods which, even in the small powers, accept very well the errors of angle during the fight. Fighting a fish at 90° does not scare them and the CB One Staff regularly pushes them to the limit during fights with big fish as shown in the picture below!
The Enfinity range will be enriched in 2021 with the arrival in June of a new model, the Enfinity 78/16 (7.8 feet long for 16 kg of brake power).
High level slow jigging with SSR rods
For this range of rods designed specifically for Slow Jigging we will find two series of blanks with different actions: a "Flex" series with an action for slow animations and a "Rigid" series with rods with a stiffer blank, more tactile and allowing drier animations. These rods are offered with Fuji Titanium rings (TKWTG for the blank rings and TMNST for the tip ring).
The reputation of CB One's ayous wood surface lures
CB One's wooden surface lures are made of ayous wood (very high density in order to resist to the predators' teeth) designed and conceived by hand. There are 6 series of wooden lures specially developed for the search of big predators such as bluefin tuna, jacks, amberjacks, etc. and widely tested by the Japanese staff CB One on big tuna and kingfish.
The Dixon
This is one of CB One's most famous surface lures currently available in 2 variations, 180mm/65g and 200mm/94g, but a new version in 160mm/52g will be available in France from May 2021.
The strong point of the Dixon is its versatility. It is a floating lure that is head above water when static and will dive under water with each pull, its open mouth profile allowing it to produce both a very loud pop on the surface and to create a trail of bubbles as it sinks into the water.
The Bazoo
This lure is the reference Popper at CB One and is available in 180mm/70g and 200mm/96g. A new version in 160mm/60g is currently under development.
The Zorro
The Zorro is a floating stickbait that will work sub-surface on the retrieve. This stick is available in 160mm/36g and 240mm/110g.
The Rodeo
The Rodeo is also a floating stickbait and will move in sub-surface with the recovery. It has a very erratic swimming action characterized by a strong rolling action (body tilting from right to left) coupled with a strong wobbling action (body undulation from right to left in the length). A very expressive lure, very mobile and very present in the water.
The Rookie
The Rookie is a stickbait and is considered the "beginner's" lure at CB One because of its ease of use as it can be animated very simply in a linear fashion. The Rookie is available in 140mm but comes in two different versions: the Rookie 140 DD (45g) which tends to stay on the surface when retrieved and the Rookie 140 ND (65g) which is heavier and tends to sink.
The Ozma
This is a very dense injected ABS resin lure with a stainless steel through-frame ideal for tuna fishing. It is available in 2 models: the Ozma HW (115m for 48g), balanced with lead and the Ozma SHW (115mm/63g) balanced with tungsten. The first series of Ozma SHW will arrive in France in July 2021!
CB One's first tungsten jig
CB One offers a wide range of Jigs for Speed Jigging and Slow Jigging but the big news in terms of Jigs at CB One is the development of a brand new Tungsten Jig, the Zero 2 this model is very much expected on the Atlantic side. It is a model of Jig which one can work at the same time in vertical and in linear in throw-ramming because of its compactness. The first production which will be available in France from May 2021 includes 2 models in 68mm for 35g and 73mm for 45g.
Premium quality Metal Parts
Rolling, broken rings, welded rings and staples are made of SUS 304 (SUS for Steel Use Stainless), a grade of stainless steel consisting of 18% chromium and 8% nickel commonly used in Japan for its mechanical, thermal and corrosion resistance while maintaining cold workability.
CB One Assist Hooks: light and efficient
CB One produces very light, very thin and very sharp Assist Hooks that facilitate the suction of the lure and therefore the success rate of the lure on predators such as sea bass that suck in their prey. In addition, these Assist Hooks are made from a stainless carbon alloy that gives them their characteristic black finish and allows them to resist corrosion. The Assist Hooks are available in several sizes from size 1 (8mm cord) to size 6/0 (30mm cord) depending on the series.
CB One harnesses are renowned for their ergonomics
CB One also designs harnesses for Stand Up and Topwater fishing which have the particularity of being very ergonomic and therefore very comfortable thanks to the use of high density EVA foam. The notch of the pommel is very pronounced ensuring the perfect support of the rod during the fight and guaranteeing at the same time to the fisherman a maximum of comfort.
A wide range of very high-end products that our journalists are already eager to test and on which they will not fail to give you feedback!
