Why is the spinnerbait so popular with anglers?

It could easily be called the worthy heir of the spinning spoon because of its design but also because of its popularity among anglers. But why this notoriety?

The spinnerbait is a lure that has a lot of appeal to the sport lure fisherman. Let's review all its skills.

Design

Like most of the lures we use in France for various types of predator fishing, the spinnerbait is a lure originally designed in the US for fishing black bass in crowded areas. It is therefore a lure that doesn't hook very well and is therefore one of the lures that should be used first when fishing in obstacles (water lilies, dead wood, thick vegetation). Let's take a look at the design of a spinnerbait.

A spinnerbait is composed of a stainless steel or titanium "V" shaped frame. One or two vanes are attached to the upper part of the frame, while the lower part of the frame is fitted with a lead head and a silicone skirt. It is the alignment of the hook in the axis of the frame that allows the spinnerbait to evolve in the heart of the obstacles. This one, by protecting the tip of the hook, limits very largely the snags.

Easy to use spinnerbait

Indeed, considering a basic use of the spinnerbait, it will be enough to bring it back to the water and it will instantly become the potential target of a predator. It can therefore be easily used by beginners. Nevertheless, even if its efficiency as a simple spinning rod is proven, the spinnerbait contains many more subtleties and should not be limited to this use!

Versatility

If it is designed to pass easily through obstacles, the spinnerbait is also a very good lure for fast prospecting because, like other lures such as soft lures, blades or lipless (to mention only these examples), and contrary to swimming fish, the design of the spinnerbait is not going to limit it to the prospecting of a strict water layer. Depending on the weight of its head and the shape of its paddles, it will be able to express itself more widely than that and will be able to go looking for fish in deep areas for example. Moreover, there are many ways to animate this lure (linear, falling, buzzing, slow rolling...).

As you can see, the spinnerbait is honestly part of the 4X4 lure category as it is able to adapt to many situations.

Price

One argument that is not the least important: the price. Indeed, a spinnerbait is most of the time proposed at relatively affordable prices, between 10 and 20 euros.

Efficiency

The spinnerbait is a very effective lure. This quality is unquestionable considering the number of catches it has made. It's no surprise that there are different versions of this black bass lure for each family of fish.

To each species its spinnerbait

Depending on its size, the spinnerbait is able to lure all the carnivorous fish of our French fresh waters! The carnivore least receptive to this paddle lure is the zander. Nevertheless, it is possible to catch them under certain conditions. From trout to pike, bass or perch, each species will find the right spinnerbait.

Tip

It is advisable to add a trailer, especially when looking for pike. It is generally a shad that is threaded on the hook. The goal is to increase its attractiveness by adding an extra vibration and increasing the volume of the lure. Nevertheless, the addition of a shad, depending on the size of the paddle, will have the consequence of slowing down the whole. Think about it!

The spinnerbait is certainly the most used lure by the modern lure fisherman and is undoubtedly one of the basic lures that you must have in your box!
