Fishing with hard lures and swimming fish is relatively easy and fun. In summer, these lures can be used on active cyprinids.
Crankbaits
There are several approaches and types of hard lures for catching chub. Crankbaits are certainly the most suitable. Depending on their characteristics and the length of their lip, they can move to different depths to adapt to the positions fished and find active chub. Indeed, the problem with this combative omnivore is to find out what it tends to feed on and where it finds its prey

Surface or subsurface cranckbaits, shallow runners will imitate an insect or amphibian on the surface, sometimes a small rodent.
Medium runners, on the other hand, move a little deeper, around 1 meter below the surface. They are very versatile.
Finally, there are the diving runners, which operate at varying depths, from 2 meters to more from the surface. Among other things, they can be used to search for chub near the bottom.
Cranckbaits are very easy to use and very useful for prospecting different positions to find active chub.

Mini crankbaits can be used for sight fishing and to imitate an insect that has fallen into the water.
Dark colors are particularly effective in summer.
Minnows and jerkbaits
These are pisciform swimming fish in the shape of a fish. Minnows from 5 to 7 cm are very effective. In summer, the chub does not hesitate to hunt bleak and other small fish. This is particularly true in areas with currents, where minnows are more suitable than crankbaits.

The bite is often violent! Summer is a great time to use this type of swimming fish!
Topwater for maximum thrills!
The queen of hard lures for summer is topwater! These are lures that move on the surface. In addition to their effectiveness, they provide a lot of sensations and sometimes spectacular surface bites. Stickbaits, poppers and other small crawlers are ideal. In summer, chub don't hesitate to feed on all kinds of prey on the surface.

The morning and evening shots are still strategic moments, but it's possible to catch beautiful chub even in the middle of the afternoon!
Lightweight but adapted equipment
The rod will be an L or ML with an ideal power range between 3 and 15 grams. The aim is to be able to cast and handle swimming fish from 3 to 7 cm and to fight fish sometimes over 50 cm. From shore, a 2 m rod is sufficient and will be very versatile. A size 2000 to 2500 reel fitted with PE0.6 braid will be perfect. The diameter of the leader will depend on the depth fished and the clarity of the water. The most useful resistance range is between 4 and 8 lbs (2 and 4 kg).

In addition to the appropriate combo, don't forget a cap, good polarized glasses and a landing net to keep this formidable chub fighter dry!
