Technical innovation
About ten years ago, when I discovered the float tube, I would never have thought that one day I would install an electric motor. I must say that technical innovation has helped me a lot. Now we find much bigger and more robust float tubes which can exceed the 200 kg load capacity! Among these heavyweights, there are models like the Skullway or bigger the Flatform distributed by 7 bass or the Lunker float from Pike and bass, the choice is great and almost all brands offer at least one big float tube in their range.

To gain autonomy in its movements
The big negative of the float tube is that it is not made to travel long distances. Originally, fly fishermen in the United States were content with a tractor or truck inner tube. I myself started float tube fishing with a small, lightweight canvas model that was easy to carry and ideal for accessing small wilderness waters.
However, I quickly found the limits of this small boat with which the displacement capacity is very limited. On the other hand, if you have a big float tube and you fish on large areas, in lakes or rivers, you might as well equip yourself with an electric motor if you can. With the wind and the current, it is complicated and even dangerous to venture on the water with the only force of the palms when you are sitting on a float tube.

No interest in small water bodies
There is no need for a motor for small closed water bodies, but on large areas, it allows you to have a small autonomous boat, easy to carry in a trunk and where you do not need a launch as with a boat or a boat.
A new world open to us
It is an option that offers us new perspectives in the practice of our passion. No more need to leave with two cars that we leave upstream and downstream of the course when we go with a friend in river. A piece to moor and the engine does the rest, it does not really bother for fishing since I use it only to move me from station to station.

The motor and the battery are not a problem for me to put in the water either, of course it's quite heavy, but I install everything once my float tube is on the water.
To be continued, the installation
In a next article I will detail the material I chose, motor, motor support and battery and I will explain you all the steps of the installation.
