FNPF lobbies European institutions on behalf of fishermen

The Fédération Nationale de la Pêche en France (FNPF) has taken a new step in its strategy to influence Europe. On April 14 and 15, its representatives travelled to Brussels to meet with the European Anglers Alliance (EAA) and bring the voice of French recreational anglers to the heart of European institutions.

Fisheries issues on a continental scale

This meeting follows an initial exchange held in February in Paris. The EAA, which federates recreational anglers from eleven European countries, invited the FNPF to join its working groups dedicated to fisheries issues on a continental scale.

At the same time, the Federation's elected representatives were received at the European Commission, at the initiative of members of the Hunting and Fishing Group. This was an opportunity to present in detail the French associative model, its organization and its missions, often cited as an example in Europe.

Getting involved in debates

Through this approach, the FNPF intends to become actively involved in European debates on major issues for recreational fishing. Priorities include the quality of aquatic environments, the preservation of migratory fish, the management of cormorant predation, the impact of climate change, and regulatory developments.

Beyond these technical issues, the Federation also wishes to strengthen the defense of recreational fishing in the face of growing pressure from certain anti-fishing movements.

More weight

Membership of the EAA would thus mark a strategic step forward, giving the FNPF greater influence over decisions taken in Brussels and enabling it to coordinate its actions with its European counterparts.

A formal application for membership will be submitted shortly. It will be examined at the EAA General Assembly, scheduled for September in Cork, Ireland.
