Key government meeting for recreational fishing

On Monday March 2, the Fédération Nationale de la Pêche en France met with Monique Barbut, Minister for Ecological Transition, and Mathieu Lefèvre, Minister Delegate. This meeting enabled progress to be made on several priority issues for the associative leisure fishing network.

Key points covered

Yellow eel

The moratorium on recreational fishing for yellow eel has been suspended. This decision symbolizes a balanced approach between protecting ecosystems and maintaining fishing activities. The FNPF is now committed to formulating proposals for the rational management of this species.

Catfish

The FNPF reaffirmed its opposition to the proposed classification of this fish, pointing out that regulation is already possible using existing tools.

The cormorant

The federation expressed its concern at the low number of decrees authorizing regulation shooting, at a time when the situation of certain fish populations is becoming worrying. It calls for better application of the ministerial decree of February 2025.

Water policy

The FNPF is preparing its participation in the emergency agricultural bill, in order to defend balanced water management and the preservation of aquatic environments.

Statement by Claude Roustan

Claude Roustan, President of the FNPF: "This meeting marks a real turning point for recreational fishing. We would like to warmly thank the Minister and the Minister Delegate for their wise arbitration and their willingness to listen. We will soon be making proposals to them concerning the yellow eel fishery. This arbitration commits us and stimulates us to fiercely defend our rivers, their biodiversity and our associative values."
