Meeting between the FNPF and the Minister for Ecological Transition

The Fédération Nationale de la Pêche en France (FNPF) met Mathieu Lefèvre, Minister Delegate for Ecological Transition, on February 2, 2026, to defend recreational fishing and aquatic biodiversity.

Context of the meeting

Claude Roustan (FNPF President), Jean-Paul Doron and Hamid Oumoussa outlined priorities such as water policy, the eel plan, wels catfish and cormorants. This hearing aims to influence national decisions on aquatic environments, balancing conservation and fishing.

Eel position

The FNPF rejects an isolated moratorium on recreational fishing in the face of collapsing stocks. It calls for a comprehensive plan, including anti-poaching measures, restoration of ecological continuity, a moratorium on glass eels and a reduction in the number of professional fleets. Claude Roustan insists on shared efforts to avoid a "fatal blow" to recreational fishing.

Catfish management

The FNPF welcomes the ministerial advances and calls for a classification that is "duly justified and territorialized", pragmatic for anglers and biodiversity, and avoids a uniform ban.

Cormorant control

Request for proactive prefectoral decrees via the DDT to authorize more shootings. Objective: effectively protect fish, especially eels, from this invasive predator.

Agricultural Emergency Act

During the meeting with Mathieu Lefèvre, the FNPF president also expressed serious concerns about the emergency agricultural law, in connection with his January 20 letter to the Prime Minister.

The emergency agricultural law aims to support farmers through accelerated measures, including facilities for water storage (basins, reservoirs). The FNPF fears a negative impact on already fragile aquatic environments. The FNPF affirms its total refusal to relax environmental standards.

These positions reflect the FNPF's strategic offensive to strike a balance between ecology and fishing leisure.
