Trout season opens in Corsica: a few fish between the drops

As is the case every year, many enthusiasts return to the banks of rivers and lakes to tackle the beautiful speckled trout. Corsican anglers are no exception to the rule, and even if the opening was particularly difficult due to the weather, the anglers and the trout were there.

Very high rainfall totals during winter

Over the past few months in Corsica, rainfall has recharged lakes and rivers.

Unpleasant weather, but necessary, even indispensable, to satisfy the water needs of the island's inhabitants and the many summer tourists who come to Corsica.

And, above all, for the good health of waterways and nature.

The abundant rain that has been falling since December should guarantee good fishing conditions for the second half of the season. The peaks are still snow-covered, which will provide sufficient flow during the spring.

For this year's opening, and more than ever before, the choice of reservoirs means you can avoid variable flows and rivers that are often high and tricky to fish at the start of the season.

In a lake for team fishing

In addition to the fishing conditions, dammed lakes offer the chance to share a moment as a team, sometimes 6 or 7 anglers, without stepping on each other's toes.

Fortunately, some lakes have been lowered to accommodate the melting snow, making it easier to survey the banks. Others remained full, making prospecting difficult and limited.

Fishing was looking good, but this was without counting on a new episode of rain during the opening weekend and a high atmospheric depression which is by no means a good omen.

And indeed, apart from the morning and evening shots, the periods of activity synonymous with touches were few and rather short-lived.

Unfortunately, that's the way the game goes, but it's worth noting that of the many anglers we came across, only a few were actually captive, and almost all of them managed to catch at least one or two fish.

More effective metal lures

It's worth noting that the wobbling spoons particularly stand out in terms of bite. This lure is easy to cast and allows you to prospect slowly and deeply. What's more, the undulating spoon "tolerates" roughness well in terms of retrieve speed and animation, and makes it fairly easy to hit fish when they're active. This may well explain why there are so few hoods.

For my part, the Illex Native Spoon and Illex Tricoroll spoon caught well, as usual I might add. My colleagues also had good results with PTL Craft models.

To sum up, the opening in Corsica was difficult, but many enthusiasts managed to pull through, and conditions are looking very good for the rest of the season!
