A special feature of the Spine-X 190 F is its modifiable stroke, which can be adjusted by adding or removing titanium wires. This influences amplitude and fluidity between sections, for a controlled result!

Spine-X 190 F

The Spine-X 190 F is a four-part hard swimbait fitted with a bib and ending in a soft tail. The lure floats and the position of the attachment point and the bib make it swim just below the surface.

Il reste sous la surface.
It stays below the surface.

The originality of the Spine-X lies in the fact that you can decide your own swimming action, or more precisely the intensity of the ripple. This is made possible by a system of titanium wires running the length of the lure, which can be added or removed.

Un système de fils en titane modifie la nage.
A system of titanium wires modifies the stroke.

The fewer the wires, the wider the range of movement between the sections and the jerkier the stroke. On the contrary, the more wires, the smoother and tighter the stroke, closer to something natural, while reducing the noise of the sections between them.

The titanium wires are inserted into a hole in the head on one side, and held back by the tail on the other.

Les fils traversent le haut des sections.
The wires run across the top of the sections.

Threading is easy, but reattaching the tail is tedious and a good way of tearing it. Adjusting the swimming action, which is the lure's key point, becomes a point that you shouldn't play with too often.

Coming back to the soft tail, it seems to be made from a material with which there have been certain problems in the past, on other lures. The problems are incompatibility with other plastics, high fragility and permanent deformation.

La queue est fragile.
The tail is fragile.

To avoid any mishaps, I therefore recommend keeping the plastic protection supplied with it, and always putting it back on. This is all the more true as Megabass is not very generous and doesn't even offer a spare tail...

All the same, we're talking about a lure selling for ?98.70, which leaves me a little dubious as to its selling price and durability. As far as the titanium threads are concerned, they're well protected and should last, but it's the tail that I have my doubts about.

Use

In France, it seems a bit big for black-bass fishing, and it's primarily for pike fishing that it's interesting. The hooks and split rings supplied with it should do the job, they inspire confidence.

My opinion

I like the Spine-X 190 F's feathering just below the surface. The addition of wires provides real interest and the swimming action is very successful. The configurations with 2 and 3 wires are the most convincing, and what's more, they offer something new!

I also appreciate the lure's lightness, despite its size, which means it can be used on a simple H-power rod.
