Lure fishing for trout: original products to discover

Olivier Tondeur is an enthusiast who offers a wide range of products for trout fishing. On his online store, you'll find his famous assist hooks, as well as original creations and handmade swimming fish. Let's find out more about his philosophy.

How long has Truite et ombre.com been around and why? What products do you sell?

Olivier Tondeur: "Trout and Grayling has existed since April 1, 2017. Why? There are jobs with which it's not possible to build your family and personal life financially.

So I set about creating a website to sell my guiding services and assist hooks first.

What's more, my professional partner at the time offered to sell Japanese lures in colors not distributed in Europe for trout and grayling.

That's how I came to add trout lures to my catalog, and in particular swimming fish, and to start selling fishing products such as artisanal swimming fish.

In the store today you'll find only handmade products (swimming fish, wobbling and spinning spoons, assist hooks, flies...) sourced from all over Europe."

What is the philosophy behind the products you offer and why do they stand out from other trout products?

"The basic idea behind Truite-et-Ombre is to offer all salmonid anglers original, exclusively handmade products at non-excessive prices.

The question of packaging is also close to my heart. At first I used recycled plastic bubble wrap, then today I use 100% recycled packaging made from sheep's wool from Estonia.

The store stands out every year for its growing number of new products. We (Editor's note: Olivier and his "crafteurs" partners) work all year round to create new shapes, and therefore new swims and animations on each lure. Width, length, shape, weight, density... The creative specifications are quite imposing.

Each swimmer fish has an average of 4 coats of varnish to guarantee long-lasting paints!"

You specialize in trout assist hooks. How would you convince anglers to use them?

"Fishing with assist hooks is first and foremost a personal approach, not a fad.

There are only advantages to using them. First of all, it's better for the fish, especially small trout, as it prevents many injuries, particularly to the eyes and gills.

There are also fewer problems with hooks and meli melo in landing nets, they also avoid garlands of swimming fish in boxes, and they make the angler safer (when you're hooked in the opposite bank and your lure hits your clothes when you unhook it, it's always easier to remove a single hook).

It also hooks much less on river bottoms and I find that an assithook also gives the lure more freedom when fishing in animation or casting back.

Finally, it minimizes stalls during candles and fights."

Tell us about your after-sales service and the services you offer in addition to sales

"Today, I've set up an after-sales service on the bibs of the store's swimming fish.

If tomorrow you cast your lure on the famous "big trout bridge pier", you'll finally have the means to change your lure's lip and thus guarantee its longevity.

Today, many customers prefer to phone me before placing an order, which enables me to direct them towards purchases that match the rivers they fish and the fish they target. This is a real plus for my human-scale store, being able to guide customers and advise them on the best possible experience with the products I offer.
