New version of the Lyon Aquarium: dive into the splendors of the sea

The Aquarium de Lyon, in La Mulatière, welcomes the public this Thursday with an enhanced version of its two main new features: the "Océan 360" and "Lueurs marines" areas.

New spaces

Océan 360 is a 300 m² immersive digital room, with 360° projections that plunge visitors into the grandeur of the oceans without captivating giant animals.âeuros

Lueurs marines is a new area designed around light and deep atmospheres, completing the existing itinerary by adding more contemplative worlds.âeuros

Surface and paths

The Aquarium de Lyon expands to around 3,500 m², almost 1,000 m² more than before the works, with six large aquatic universes instead of four.âeuros

The journey takes you from the waters of the RhÃ'ne and SaÃ'ne rivers to the depths of the ocean, with enhanced mediation (games, workshops, educational tools) for all ages.âeuros

Marine lights: the 3 ecosystems

  • The depths of the Sea of Japan, with immense Japanese crabs, rarely seen in aquariums.âeuros
  • A coral reef in Bali, where growing corals are also used to supply other European aquariums with cuttings.âeuros
  • A forest of Breton kelp, large undulating seaweed inhabited by numerous species of seaweed.âeuros

Philosophy and animal welfare

The project focuses on ecosystems rather than a few large "star" specimens, with each basin conceived as a fragment of a coherent ocean.âeuros

The establishment limits the number of fish taken from the sea (favoring breeding, exchange and reproduction) and has significantly reduced the use of antibiotics in favor of gentler methods, while improving its environmental performance (energy, plastics, etc.).âeuros

Practical info

The extension opened to the public on December 18, 2025, just before the Christmas vacations.âeuros

The full adult price is around ?19.50 on site, with cheaper dated tickets available online and a recommended visit of around 2 hours.
