Pollack, a species highly prized by fishermen
Pollack is a popular species with recreational anglers. Traditionally, these fish are sought at great depths, on wrecks several dozen miles offshore.
Current regulations, which limit catches to two fish per day and per angler, have discouraged many enthusiasts from targeting this species, especially as it has a very poor resistance to ascent from great depths, making the practice of no-kill particularly tricky. Yet this is an excellent measure for preserving the resource.

As winter approaches and the water cools, the sometimes very large lake trout return to colonize the coastal plateaus. There, they can be fished in shallow water, below 20 meters, making it easier to practice no-kill.
That's exactly what we did on our last outing, enjoying a beautiful December day.

Perfect conditions for targeting the yellow spot
This beautiful December day enabled us to reach areas usually exposed to strong currents, where it is difficult to fish.
The day's coefficient played a big part in the success of our outing: it was 45 that day, allowing us to fish all day in areas where it's usually impossible to go or to fish properly because of the high drift speed.

This weak current also influences the behavior of pollock. This fish doesn't like strong currents. In this case, they lurk in the kelp or behind a drop-off, where they are difficult to flush out.
During this outing, we fished shallow flats where the lees were marauding.
Fishing close to the bottom with slow movements
The key to success lay in the animation of the lures.
We opted for slow fishing, close to the bottom, to try and flush out the fish on the prowl, ready to pounce on the slightest prey passing by. Visit Master Shad, in sizes 100 and 125 or the Fiiish Black Minnow 120 for scraping, we were able to land some very nice fish.

The pollack is a species that offers quite powerful fights for its size. In little water, with light tackle, it's a real pleasure.
Speaking of equipment, I really enjoyed using statement 724 . This is a Rodbuilders Republic blank distributed by Rodhouse. With a power range from 5 to 25 grams, it is perfect for animating these sets. Its resonance is unparalleled, and the slightest contact with the bottom is clearly felt.

With its "fast" action, the hooks are effective and avoid missing bites. This light blank offers pleasant fights against these superb fish, which are nice-sized lake trout.
