Weekly material / The Pit Swimmer from Fiiish, at home in both sea and freshwater!

Every year brings its share of new products! But in 2025, at Fiiish, after the Master Shad in spring, it's the Pit Swimmer's turn. This seasonality is obviously no coincidence, for while the former is more of a saltwater lure, the latter is ideal for pike lovers. Fiiish has always had an eye for detail and innovation, and the Pit Swimmer has been designed with versatility in mind, both in terms of medium and of rigs and targets.

The inverted paddle

The inverted paddle has become one of Fiiish's trademarks. While this is a recognizable sign of the company's identity, its presence on many of the brand's models is due above all to the efficiency of this tail profile. In fact, this orientation enables immediate action on descent and during slower retrieves, thanks to the surface area in contact with the water. This characteristic is particularly important when fishing in enclosed waters, i.e. with no current, where only the lure's animation can bring it into action. This is all the more relevant as, at certain times of the year, a slow or even very slow retrieve is decisive for pike.

This paddle, which resembles the Crazy Paddle Tail, is larger and displaces more water, sending a stronger signal to predators. While the frequency of vibrations is certainly important when fishing with lures, the volume of water displaced is even more so when you want to imitate an imposing prey.

This last point is amplified by the lure's overall volume, which is much greater than that of a Crazy Paddle Tail or Black Minnow. This suggests a different range of applications for sea bass, particularly for linear fishing in open water.

A studied profile

The Pit Swimmer has a slim overall profile, but with a relatively wide body offering great stability and a substantial bearing surface.

While this support surface results in a substantial displacement of water, it also induces a slight rolling action and, above all, great stability in the water, even on fast retrieves with a weak sinker. As a result, its descent speed is necessarily slower and it can glide for a long time during pauses if you rig it weigthless, which is fearsome for pike.

Last but not least, the lure's high material content and density give it excellent casting distances, which is not to be underestimated when the desired medium or presentation means doing without a lead head.

In action

Once the Pit Swimmer is in the water, its ability to reach long distances and its swimming stability are obvious. The movements of the caudal fin, even at slow speeds, are clearly perceptible in the rod.

Equipped with its shallow mounting, it glides naturally during pauses over seagrass beds, oyster beds or near key positions.

Various mounting and application options

The Pit Swimmer has been designed for maximum versatility and to target a wide variety of predators in both sea and freshwater. It can be armed in three different ways, depending on the desired presentation, swimming depth and environmental characteristics.

  • First of all, it's available with a Shallow rig, i.e. without sinker, but fitted with a ventral triple that unhooks on touch. This rig is very interesting for pike, but also for sea bass over oyster beds or in shallow areas. You can, of course, add a pomegranate lead at the head for deeper fishing.
  • The Pit Swimmer also features a slot on the dorsal (and ventral) side to accommodate a Texan hook and allow you to explore weedbeds.
  • Finally, a jig head will enable you to do all the classic scratch and line fishing for bass or pike-perch, for example.

The range

The Pit Swimmer is available in three sizes: 10 cm (for 9 g), 12.5 cm (17 g) and 15 cm (29 g), and in 6 colors ranging from natural to flashy. For the sea, blue and khaki will obviously be a must, but also mullet on bright days. The gold minnow is undoubtedly very interesting for night fishing!

For freshwater, while the natural colors mentioned above will also be very effective, white is sure to be a classic and atomic citrus will delight pike and zander anglers!
