Saltwater anglers have certainly experienced this before: squid and cuttlefish don?t hesitate to strike at a soft lure originally intended for fish. Fiiish?s famous Black Minnow is no exception. Until now, however, its standard hook made it rather hit-or-miss to land these strikes. With the Black Squid, the French brand aims to solve this problem specifically.
From the Black Minnow to the Black Squid in just a few seconds
The concept is appealing because of its simplicity. Rather than creating a completely separate lure, Fiiish has developed a rig for cephalopods that is compatible with the Black Minnow and Black Eel. This allows anglers to keep the bodies and jig heads they normally use and simply modify the rigging.
At the heart of the rig is the patented PH2S system. It allows you to quickly switch from a setup designed for fish to one suited for cephalopods, without tools. This versatility is particularly useful when both fish and squid are present in the same area during a single fishing trip.
Another advantage: there?s no need to change your fishing style. Fiiish relies precisely on the swimming action of the Black Minnow and the Black Eel. You can therefore stick to your usual techniques, from casting and retrieving to fishing closer to the bottom.
BKK baskets and a phosphorescent insert
The key difference, of course, lies in the weaponry. The Black Squid is equipped with BKK baskets, designed to pierce the tentacles of cephalopods and withstand the marine environment. Their placement has been carefully designed to maximize the effectiveness of attacks.
Fiiish also includes a Glow insert designed to enhance the visual signal. All colors in the Black Squid line are phosphorescent and react to UV light?a particularly useful feature when light levels drop or when fishing at depth.
Two sizes for the Black Minnow and Black Eel
The Black Squid comes in two sizes. Size #2 is compatible with the bodies and all heads of the 90 mm Black Minnow and 110 mm Black Eel. Size #3 is designed for the 120 mm Black Minnow and 150 mm Black Eel. Combo sets are also available in both sizes.
