Versatile king baits
Live or gray shrimp is undoubtedly the most selective bait for beautiful sars, presented on the float or on the bottom, it resists well and also attracts other sparids.
The mussel can be used nested on the hook, tied with elastic thread. It gives off a natural scent that is irresistible to sars, especially in rocky areas.
Pieces of sardine with their strong scent, they attract the attention of big sars when surfcasting or baiting; excellent on cluttered bottoms.
Marine worms famous for their sar
The bibi this classic Mediterranean worm is very fleshy and ideal for keeping out small unwanted fish and targeting large sars and breams. A worm best presented on fine line.
Trawl worms, American worms, areca worms and chickweed are robust worms. They resist casting, hold well on the hook, and are appreciated on mixed bottoms and in rough seas.
La gravette is a less resistant but very attractive worm, to be used in quiet areas.
Shellfish and crustaceans
Green crab: whole or in pieces for fine specimens, formidable on the bottom or on rocky areas and dykes, especially at night to avoid parasitic fish.
Clam, razor clam, whelk : large sars love these ligatured shells; very effective on rocky dykes.

Strips of squid or cuttlefish has a perfect hold on the hook, is very olfactory and resistant, ideal for long casts and night fishing.
Raw prawns with its tender, fragrant flesh, it is an effective fine peach.
Practical tips for bait fishing for sar
For fragile baits, reserve mussels, sardines or clams for nights or areas with fewer small parasitic fish species.
Tough baits such as bibi, crab, trawl worms or squid strips are best for daytime fishing, in agitated areas or in positions exposed to voracious fish.
