The benefits of kayaking

Fishing for wolffish from a kayak will allow you to cover as much ground as possible, a major advantage when looking specifically for wolffish.

What's more, thanks to the kayak, you'll be able to position yourself in the right way to tackle the hunt or comb a suitable spot. The glide of the kayak will give you a silent approach, an undeniable advantage when stalking this increasingly wary fish.

Different techniques

Kayak fishing allows you to troll or cast and drag. Two lure fishing techniques that can be substituted on the same fishing trip.

Trolling will be done with swimming fish that can move at different depths to explore all water layers. Use suspending lures to avoid hooking on uneven bottoms. You can also troll with small soft lures mounted on a lead head, but don't stop in the middle of the line or your soft lure will snag on the bottom.

If you prefer action, lure fishing from a kayak is also possible. Casts don't necessarily have to be powerful. What's important is precision and discretion. Just fish the outstanding spots. Rock heads, shoals, breaks, or any other spot where a fish may be lying in wait.

The equipment

The equipment required for wolf fishing from a kayak is basic. A rod adapted to the different weights of lures used (usually between 5 and 25 gr), with a short butt if possible for greater comfort. A reel between size 2,500 and 3,500, with anti-corrosion treatment.

A few soft lures, lead heads and various hard lures will be more than enough to keep you entertained. Depending on the conditions, a good pair of polarized glasses will enable you to see the fish and anticipate your fishing.
