A threat to natural environments
The law is seen as a step backwards in water and environmental policy.
It could jeopardize ambitions to achieve good ecological water status, when half of France's rivers are already in poor ecological condition.
The reintroduction of certain neonicotinoids, pesticides, poses major risks of polluting water tables, rivers and bodies of water, thus threatening aquatic biodiversity.
A threat to water resources
The law could make it easier to build mega-pools, with adverse consequences for groundwater and watercourses.
Anticipatory, thrifty and concerted water management is needed to reconcile the interests of farmers and environmental protection.

Support for OFB and other operators
The FNPF reaffirms its support for the Office Français de la Biodiversité (OFB) and all the agencies and public bodies working to protect aquatic environments.
"The real crisis in the agricultural world must not be allowed to undermine the place of water and the environment on the political agenda. This law jeopardizes biodiversity, water quality and the quality of life of farmers and French people in general. It is, in all conscience, ecocide. The opposition expressed by certain members of parliament, from all sides, is to be welcomed." Claude Roustan, President of the FNPF.

This law is therefore perceived as a threat to the preservation of watercourses and aquatic biodiversity in France.
