Partnership between the European Boating Industry and EFTTA on fishing

On June 24, 2025, the European Boating Industry (EBI) and the European Fishing Tackle Trade Association (EFTTA) formalized a strategic partnership to promote a common approach to sustainability in Europe's boating and recreational fishing industries.

Partnership objectives and content

The aim of this partnership is to unite the strengths of the pleasure boating and recreational fishing sectors in order to have a greater say in European discussions and policies relating to the blue economy, access to marine environments, environmental sustainability and tourism.

The two organizations are committed to collaborating on the development of advocacy strategies, data sharing, communication and participation in major industry events (such as the EFTTA Angling Summit or EBI's Blue Innovation Dock).

The aim is to speak with a stronger voice to European institutions to defend the interests of both sectors, particularly on issues of access to the sea, qualifications, sustainable management and innovation.

The partnership is in line with the European "âeuros¯Blue Growthâeuros¯" initiative, focusing on job creation, innovation and alignment with EU environmental objectives.

How it works

Each organization retains its institutional autonomy, but regular meetings and joint action plans are planned to ensure concrete implementation of commitments.

Statements from the presidentsâeuros¯: Robert Marx (EBI) and Gerard Bakkenes (EFTTA) emphasized that this alliance will enable them to better defend the sustainability, innovation and economic strength of their sectors, which together represent hundreds of thousands of jobs in Europe.

This partnership marks an important milestone for Europe's boating and recreational fishing industries, with a clear commitment to jointly influencing European policies, promoting sustainability and ensuring an innovative and responsible future for maritime leisure activities.
