Presentation
This newcomer to the Rapala range has a very modern look while retaining the family resemblance of the Original.

In terms of figures, the Original weighs 5 g for the 9 cm model. The Floater weighs 6.5 g for 8.5 cm. It's therefore denser, and this will prove true at the water's edge with much easier casts.
The different colors are really splendid, and I was immediately a particular fan of the "minnow", very realistic indeed.

These lures are fitted with treble hooks, so for me the first step before taking them to the water's edge to stalk trout was to replace them with single hooks. With a special pair of pliers, the operation is quick and easy.
Be careful not to put too large a single hook on the front, as it would tend to cover the back of this streamlined swimming fish, rendering it ineffective.

Time for a test
From the very first throw, it's clear that there have been significant improvements. The Original model had an annoying tendency to spin, reducing accuracy and casting distance.
The Floater, on the other hand, launches beautifully. Very useful on large rivers and/or in windy conditions. It's a technically sophisticated lure, but very easy to use and perfectly suited to beginners.
It swims with a simple linear recovery and doesn't stall at any speed. When pausing, it rises gently while remaining horizontal. Because of its size, it displaces a lot of water and is likely to move fish from a distance. It's a good prospecting lure when you're in front of a uniform zone, be it a current or a flat.
The fact that it floats makes it indispensable for reaching areas inaccessible to sinking lures. By casting upstream from overhanging branches, for example, and letting the lure drift, you'll be able to get through where others won't. This is often the key to success in heavily fished areas. Often the key to success in heavily fished areas.
Its swimming depth is around 1 metre. It is of course possible, with a high rod and slow retrieve, to swim in shallower areas.
During my trials, it attracted some beautiful trout who didn't hesitate to climb into the water column to pick it up despite the cold temperatures at the start of the season.

This lure is a great success that will reconcile anglers with floating lures thanks to its casting ability.
Don't hesitate to use flashy colors, they have the advantage of allowing the angler to follow the lure with his eyes and see it evolve.

It's a fluorescent pink that has so far given me my most beautiful fish of the 2025 season.
