I have tested... / Shimano's Twinpower reel range, a sure bet!

When you're looking for a reel, you'll find a particularly wide choice on store shelves, to suit every budget and every need. However, over the years, certain models have established themselves as indispensable benchmarks of quality and satisfaction for anglers. Among these, the Twinpower series has been a leader in the Shimano range for several decades now. Here are the reasons for this success!

The models I own

For a few seasons now, I've been won over by Shimano's Twinpower range, so much so that I've equipped my rods with a 14000-size model for tuna, an XD FA 5000 for bass fishing on the pull and finally a 3000FD for fine fishing. After many fish and 3 years of regular outings and rigorous maintenance, my reels are running like new.

Top of the range

The Twinpower series is part of Shimano's top-of-the-range range. In fact, they come after the Stella and Vanquish ranges. As a result, the Twinpower series has almost nothing to envy from its big brothers, as it benefits, series after series, from all the new and best technologies in the range. The difference often lies in details such as the number of bearings, weight, braking power or specific materials. However, these points are only noticeable in extreme riding conditions, or for the most demanding customers with, let's face it, bigger wallets!

A variety of models

The Twinpower series has the advantage of being one of Shimano's most comprehensive and varied. In fact, they come in all sizes from 2000 to 14000 and with different construction versions, often for use in fresh or salt water. This vocation results, at different levels, in the use of different materials that are more or less resistant to corrosion, but also in the design of the brake, axles and gears. These differences often have an influence on the weight of the reel for the same size, so it's important to take your needs into account when making your choice.

Smooth rotation

What distinguishes the Twinpower series, like the Stella and Vanquish, from the lower ranges, is its smoothness of rotation. When you first pick up a reel in this finish range, you'll often notice it right away. It's hard to go back once you've tried them.

A very progressive brake

The second strong point of this series is its braking power, which is common to many of the brand's models, but above all its progressiveness. Even on extreme fishing such as bluefin tuna with a reel in size 14000, or on smaller fish with common sizes ranging from 3000 to 5000, the Twinpower always releases the braid with perfectly linear and smooth resistance, even when you push it to the limit. This not only improves comfort in battle, but also ensures that you don't lose a fish when you're at the breaking point.

Real reliability

Finally, because that's what you'd expect from a top-of-the-range reel, the Twinpower series has been recognized over the years for its reliability over time. It's not an insignificant investment, but it's always a source of satisfaction in daily use and over the long term.
