Pro-Staff / Oban Jones : « I am proud to be an ambassador »

Oban Jones is a Fiiish brand ambassador. He is a fisherman who is passionate about lure fishing and particularly bass fishing. Oban resides in the United Kingdom in the wild county of Cornwall.

Can you introduce yourself to the readers of fishing.news ?

Oban Jones, 24 from Cornwall uses lures to target predators from the shore & boat. My  favorite style of fishing involves a Soft Inflatable boat (SIB) used to access shallow reef where bass and pollock ambush their prey in the currents. I like to take a minimalist approach with my gear to get every bit of sport out of the fight.

Can you tell us about your beginnings in fishing ?

A fascination was developed from a young age by catching small trout from streams and wrasse in the rock pools. When I discovered lure fishing it became a total obsession, it had a massively positive influence on me. Its amazing to see how far the saltwater scene has developed in the last 10 years and I have tried my best to keep up with it.

When, how and why did you agree to be Pro-Staff ?

I started posting videos on YouTube in an attempt to inspire other anglers and after a year of frequent uploads Fiiish noticed that I was successful with the black minnow  among other lures so when they asked whether I'd like to be an ambassador I naturally said yes !

Being an ambassador, what does that mean to you ?

It means that I must practice the best methods and display my successes and experiences in a professional manner. I am proud to be an ambassador and consider it one of my greatest angling achievements. I have a responsibility to show others that Fiiish lures are the right tool for the job and that is something I feel passionate about.

Your fondest memory, or an anecdote, as a Pro-Staff to share with our readers ?

My first time meeting with the Fiiish UK & IE team, surrounded by like minded anglers sharing a passion for catching fish on the best lures in the business, that was a reel highlight for me !

How do you view fishing in UK ?

Its an ever evolving scene, there's certainly nothing dull about fishing and the way it connects people internationally is really special. I do feel as though a stronger drive is required to recruit young anglers to keep the passion going and within the UK we really could be doing a lot more.

Any advice for fishermen who may one day want to join a Pro-Staff Team ?

My main bit of advice is to just enjoy your time on or near the water and not to take it too seriously. It can be fun to record your experiences on camera and share them with others to learn from. If people appreciate the efforts you have made a brand will notice you.
