High resistance
The first essential parameter is braid strength.
To tackle the big bluefin tuna that cruise off the coast of Brittany, you need to be at least 130 lbs strong.
Specimens rarely weigh less than 80 kilos and can reach 250 kilos.
Generally, we speak in P.E., which is a diameter.

PE10 or PE12 braids are the most common. Some days, when faced with smaller fish, a PE8 diameter is necessary, especially if they are fickle.
Beware of advertised and actual resistance. There may sometimes be significant differences.
Fluidity to optimize throws
As with all cast fishing, distance is important.
Some types of braid glide better than others. This parameter has a direct influence on your ability to cast far.
Unlike live-fishing, here we're going for a minimum 8-strand model, which offers interesting technical features.

A multicolored model
The color of the braid may seem an unimportant criterion. And yet, here, when it comes to bluefin tuna fishing, I find it of non-negligible importance.
A pattern marked every 10 meters by a different color allows me to know with good precision where the fish is and how many braids it picks up on the rushes.
Knowing the colors of the braid marked every 10 metres, I can estimate the braid.

My selection of models
Over the past few seasons, I've been able to test different models that have given me complete satisfaction:
Advertised with a resistance of 123 lbs, this braid is not the finest on the market. In the rings, it is quite noisy, but offers sufficient glide to achieve satisfactory casting distances.
Its strong points are its real resistance, which is sufficient to combat the bluefin tuna encountered in the area. It is multicolored, marked every 10 meters. As previously stated, I really appreciate this feature. Finally, its value for money is unbeatable. Expect to pay around 35 euros for a 300 m spool.

Visit Sunline Siglon Pe X8 is the second multicolor model I use.
It offers excellent glide and is quiet in the rings. Casting distances obtained with this lure are better than with the Daiwa J-braid.
The 450 m spools can be used to fill reels with plenty of capacity. Ideal for fishing at great depths.

It is available in Pe 10 and Pe 12 for a resistance of 130 or 150 lbs.
Expect to pay around ?150 for one of these two coils.
