Descending the Loire in a canoe
This beautiful book takes us along the magnificent Loire River, where we encounter nature and people in contact with France's longest river. Photographer Erwan Balança and watercolorist Yves Fagniart descend the Loire aboard a mythical canoe from the 1970s.
A journey that takes the reader from Roanne to Nantes to discover the Loire's atypical landscapes, rich heritage and enchanting nature. There are also wonderful encounters with the men and women who live in contact with the river: fishermen, winegrowers, bargemen... Written as a literary narrative, "Au fil de la Loire" also takes you fishing and discovering the different fish species that inhabit this mythical river.

Extract

In its half-open mouth, you could see the innumerable little teeth pointing backwards. Its beautiful olive-green scales were punctuated with light spots and commas right down to the caudal fin. To honor this beautiful carnivore, a bottle of white Beaujolais stuck in the sand cooled the contact with the river water... "
