Film synopsis Under the Seine
It's summer 2024, Paris is hosting the triathlon world championships for the first time. The event is to be held on the Seine. Sophia, a brilliant scientist and shark specialist, is alerted by Mika, a young activist devoted to ecology, to the presence of a large shark in the depths of the river in the middle of Paris. They team up with Adil, commander of the river police, to prevent a bloodbath in the heart of the capital.

Jaws french
To tell you the truth, don't expect to discover the Seine and its wealth of fish life. Not a single perch or pike-perch to be seen. Only an unfortunate, dead (shark-killed) and barely realistic catfish features in the cast of the film directed by Xavier Gens. It didn't help that many of the scenes were shot in studios specializing in underwater sequences for the cinema. To make the underwater scenes more realistic, the film crew had to create a current and fill the water with waste!
So there's little point for us anglers in watching this thriller, which is just another edition of D ents from the sea . However, the film also reveals the sometimes unfounded and dangerous intentions of animal rights activists. A film that will certainly do no favors to lovers of the river and its rich fish life.

A catfish instead of a shark
The film is the subject of a lawsuit for "parasitism" brought by director Vincent Dietschy. The same director is accusing the producers of Under the Seine to have taken up the idea of a scenario he had imagined in 2011 entitled Catfish . For the latter, the similarities between his project.., Catfish (featuring a man-eating catfish in the Paris river on the eve of the Olympic Games), and the screenplay for Under the Seine are too numerous to be mere coincidence. A trial that will take place on June 14, 2024 and decide the fate of the Netflix film.
Another scenario that would certainly not have helped recreational anglers in the French capital to raise awareness of the benefits of fish diversity in the Seine. Parisian anglers will have to continue to fight to be able to practice their hobby without difficulty.
