Is it possible to fish in all conditions with a single lure, given the variety of spots, species and fishing techniques? I played the game of trying to select a single lure that would be suitable for almost all situations encountered when fishing at sea, targeting different species.

Fishing areas

Before selecting a lure, you need to be able to draw up specifications according to the type of fishing and the areas. Areas fished in the Channel for sea bass and pollack , saint- stone and pike-perch, to name but a few, are found between 5 and 50 meters.

Whether it's sandy areas, rocky plateaus or wrecks, you'll need a lure that can be rigged with a wide range of lead heads.

Prey size

Adapting to the fish's diet is one of the keys to success.

These predators usually feed on bluefish, sprat, crab or sand eels. Over the years, I've found that the regularity of my catches was greater when I used shads rather than slugs imitating sandeels. This is undoubtedly due to the fact that sand eels are not present all year round, and are restricted to certain specific areas.

That's why my unique lure would undoubtedly be a shad of a dozen centimeters, which corresponds to the average size of prey in the areas I fish.

Choice of colors

Lure colors range from fluorescent to natural. Personally, I stick to natural colors such as blue, khaki, green and so on. It would be a lie to say that I never use colors in my lures fluorescent, but very rarely, or under specific conditions such as deep-sea fishing.

My choice: Black Minnow 140 of Fiiish

Taking all the above parameters into consideration, my choice of single lure is the Black Minnow 140 of Fiiish.

Available in 6 weights (10, 20, 28, 40, 60 and 80 grams), it can be used on a wide range of spots, including on the shore.

By varying the lead heads, its swimming action will be different. The Off model Shore for fast, in-between-water fishing at depths of between 10 and 20 m on the fly on active fish that can be easily detected by depth sounder.

Visit Shore for linear fishing close to the bottom. I like this to look for yelloweye on the lookout in the kelp fields or linearly through the water layer.

After casting 3/4 downstream and making contact with the bottom, I execute a continuous retrieve. This has the effect of making the lure swim through the entire layer of water from the bottom to the surface. This head shore is one that induces the rolling the most important lure.

The 10 and 20 gram heads allow me to use it from shore and select the prettiest fish.

J'affectionne utiliser le Black Minnow 140 mm du bord. Monté sur une tête Shore en 20 g, il permet de pêcher en linéaire proche du fond.
I like to use the 140 mm Black Minnow from the shore. Mounted on a 20-gram Shore head, it allows you to fish linear patterns close to the bottom.

For wrecks and deep plateaus, I turn to the X Deep in 80 grams which allows the lure to descend rapidly and is suitable for fishing deep spots. This head is also suitable for the "elevator" technique, which consists of a continuous vertical retrieve of the lure through the layer of water.

As for colors, there's nothing but the best, with eight possible choices between natural and fluorescent.

Yes, it is possible to fish with a single lure that comes in different weights thanks to leaded head models. The Black Minnow 140 of Fiiish allows me to do this. Even if, in practice, I always have other lures with me, such as the Crazy Sand Eel which completes the range, when I arrive in an area, I almost always start by fishing with the Black Minnow 140 mm .
