I have tested... / The new Delalande 5 cm touptishad for trout fishing

This new size of touptishad is perfect for trout fishing, especially in lakes!

The touptishad of the French brand Delalande arrives this year in a 5 centimeters version. A lure available in new sizes and new colors. A lure to be used in particular in lakes.

New size, new weight, new colors

Available for several years in a 3 cm version for 2 grams and a 4 cm version for 4 grams, the touptishad is one of the smallest ready to fish lures on the market. However, these two versions were sometimes a little light and borderline too small for lake fishing or in deep rivers.

Delalande has therefore released this year a slightly larger and heavier version: a 5 cm for 5 grams. Still with its adapted fish-shaped head and its small paddle that quickly gets into action, this new touptishad also sees three new colors added to the already large range. Red Smoke and Red Watermelon, both with big red glitter. Spinning trout fishermen know that red dots appeal to lady fario. And the Galactic Pink color, a transparent glitter with an ultra flashy UV pink back, a color that also appeals to trout.

Like all Delalande lures, the touptishad is made from 85% bio-sourced material. This reduces the impact of fishermen on the environment as much as possible!

A version to fish further and deeper:

This new touptishad, with its 5 grams lead head, weighs just over 6 grams. A weight ideally located in the power range of rods regularly used for lake fishing such as 3-12g for example.

This weight allows to gain in casting distance, which regularly makes the difference in lakes, especially in places where the fishing pressure is important. The 5-gram head also allows it to descend quite quickly into the water when it is free (reel pick-up open). But the paddle slows it down slightly when the angler holds it down with the banner stretched out, which also makes for a slower, more gliding fishing experience.

How to animate the 5 cm touptishad to fish trout in lake ?

For lake trout fishing with touptishad, it is possible to practice several different animations:

  • Linear fishing:

The simplest animation and the most used by shad fishermen, the linear fishing consists in throwing and bringing back its lure in a linear way, in the desired water layer. In order to imitate a small prey in movement. The touptishad, which has a rather flexible tail, is perfectly adapted to this type of fishing, even at a rather slow speed, but does not stall on fast lines!

  • Dart fishing:

Another possible animation with the 5 cm touptishad, the darter fishing, which aims to imitate a prey in flight or wounded. To do so, the angler must, when retrieving, put short and dry strokes of the rod while continuing to cast. These rod movements will then move the lure from right to left. This tends to trigger attacks by aggressiveness. This animation is also very effective on hunting fish.

  • Scratch Fishing:

In contrast to darter fishing, scratch fishing is used when the fish are more difficult to trigger, even apathetic, lying on the bottom or when they feed on the bottom of small prey like sculpins or gobies. The idea is to cast as far as possible, let the lure hit the bottom, then start a very slow retrieve over a few dozen centimeters only before resuming contact with the bottom, and so on. This slow fishing allows to raise a little bit of substrate at each fall, which arouses the curiosity of the trout and triggers the attack when the lure starts again.

Quick tip: when casting, wait a few seconds, lure on the bottom, before starting to animate, the fish sometimes come to see with curiosity what has just fallen under their nose.

My first test of the 5 cm touptishad

During one of my first outings at the beginning of the season, I was able to test the 5 cm touptishad in search of wild farios in a dam lake. Arrived on the spot, the water is very tinted and my choice is the color Galactic Pink. After having fished for a good hour in all the water layer without the slightest touch, I started to slowly scrape the bottom and a first fish of about thirty centimeters came to join the landing net. A fish perfectly pitted in the puck thanks to the fine iron hook and very prickly of the touptishad.

The animation of the day seemed to be this one, and indeed, after insisting in this way on the different spots, several hits were recorded, and this, with different colors of this lure. It is finally a magnificent trout of 40 cm which succumbed to the mojito color of the touptishad 5 cm. This fish had a very nice fight and came to pose before going back to its element. The 5 cm touptishad seems to be very versatile for lake fishing, and allows to make trout react with various animations.
