Aesthetics
Aesthetically, I find this Daiwa Prorex XR successful. The matte black frame, with the purple accents on some metal parts give a nice timeless effect. In addition, the fact that Daiwa has chosen the matte black for this reel, seems that it is less prone to scratches or chips of varnish, as would be other reels. This reel, after 4 years, is in very good condition, compared to other models that I have had for as long.
Use
This reel is very comfortable with lures ranging from 20 to 240 grams, and once it is well adjusted, it is possible to really press the casts to reach great distances, without ever making wigs. Its adjustment is easy and precise thanks to the adjustment wheels.
I also like the size of this reel, because even though it is a 300 size reel, its small size makes it comfortable to use and it fits in the hand, which is rarely the case for reels designed for bigbaits.
In addition, it has a large spool capacity, which is essential, as it is destined to be used with large diameters of nylon or braid. I use it with 40/100 nylon for bigbait, or 80 Lbs braid for strong exotic fishing. In both cases, it responds very well to my expectations.
The same goes for its intermediate retrieve, of 73 cm per cranking. It allows me to fish both slowly with swimbaits and quickly with propbaits!
Finally, the fighting brake of this Prorex Xr is very strong, 10 kilograms! It allows to manage quickly fights with big and fragile fish that don't have a great stamina, like muskie.
As an indication, my reel is mounted on the Bone BVC 734 XXXH rod, with a power of 20-140 grams, and a length of 2.20 meters. This gives a well-balanced and light set, usable all day without fatigue.
My opinion
I have owned this reel for 4 years and I am still very satisfied with it. It is very easy to handle and adjust. It is pleasant to use and it seems very reliable. Since I've had it, I haven't felt any change in its fluidity or any noise that would indicate wear and tear. In short, I recommend it for fishing with big lures!
