Throw correctly

When I walk along the beach or along the shoreline, I am often struck by the way fishermen hold their reels.

The position of the fingers and the hand is important to know how to throw correctly. First of all to avoid injury by twisting the wrist for example. But technically to have a better roll of the nylon and to be able to control the tension when casting. This will generate the work of the rod and a precision of your throws.

Each angler will have a different hold by the positioning of the fingers. This is due to the size of the hand, unique to each.

Indeed, a child, a woman or a man will have to place his fingers on both sides of the reel because of his physiognomy.

The adaptation will also be done according to the fishing techniques, and the material used in adequacy.

8 steps to a successful launch

Let's take the example of a right-handed fisherman:

1. Turn the reel pickup so that it faces you and is slightly to the right of the rod tip. Make sure the spool brake is on.
2. With your index finger, take the nylon and come to plaster it directly on the rod. You must have your finger placed to form a right angle with your nylon. By placing your index finger higher, you will break the angle that will allow you to have the right sensitivity. But also you risk making a wig when you cast.
3. Then place your fingers on either side of the reel, without moving your already positioned index finger. It is at this stage, that there will be a difference on the placement of the fingers, according to the size of your hand.
4. Open the reel pickup.
5. Rotate the rod so that the reel is facing up. Then place your left hand on the tip of the rod. Make sure the reel is not tilted down or to the side.
6. Squeeze with your left hand. Squeezing will allow you to work the rod and have a blocking action. Your left arm is extended. Your right arm is bent and positioned over your head.
7. You can then enter the throwing action by swinging your arms. The left arm pulls the rod while the right arm pushes the rod.
8. When to let go? With the weight at the tip of the rod, your finger will feel tension and naturally rise. Nevertheless, in order to have a visual cue, and to support your throw, the release must be done when your right hand, initially bent, passes in your field of vision while pushing.

Practice better pitching

There are tricks to learning or practicing, using a tennis ball, which you drill and fit on your lead for safety.

There is no secret. Repetition of the movement, practice and work will allow you to throw better. To get a feel for your movement, and to understand more about the mechanics of throwing, you can also film yourself.

Always be careful not to throw towards roads and houses. Install targets, buckets, flags to have a visual reference and work on your accuracy. Fishing also includes in terms of preparation, technical work, which can be done outside the banks.

Moreover, the throw is recognized as a discipline in its own right on the championships. This discipline is practiced on vast fields and you will be surprised by the distances that can be reached by the competitors!
