Bream, seize the opportunity to succeed at the end of the season

You often have to spend hours at the water's edge to catch a big dorado, unless the end of the season offers you the opportunity to realize your dreams. How to choose the location and the time for a successful session?

A migration not to be missed

As sea bream fishermen know, November is the month of the end-of-season migration. The fish gather to leave the summer feeding grounds. They then move to deeper areas to better face the rigors of winter.

It is during this short migration that you have the best chance to catch the fish of the season, those that will be remembered forever.

A sea bream of two kilos or more is a fish that is always remembered. A fearsome fight, which often lasts for long minutes and whose outcome is always uncertain, leaves its mark. Defeating such a fish requires a succession of successes that make the skilled fisherman a true master.

The sea bream is an exciting fish that becomes more and more wary with age. Catching a large specimen is an absolute challenge that must be prepared from start to finish.

From the choice of the fishing area to the specificity of the mounts, it is a technical and strategic chain that must be put in place to hope to catch one of these mythical fish.

Choose your location, a golden rule

Choosing the right spot is the golden rule in all fishing techniques. It is also true here, but this choice is even more demanding insofar as we must ensure numerous and dense passages of fish. The principle is simple, a narrowing, a choke is the type of position that we must seek in priority. It is, indeed, logical that the dorados have no other choice than to pass by here.

Bream are generally attracted by specific geological formations. The presence of mussels or other shellfish is a factor that ensures the fisherman to cross the path of schools of sea bream at one time or another. For example, the ponds the Mediterranean coasts and the Arcachon basin are a typical reflection of what sea breams are looking for: vast circulation spaces associated with numerous food sources.

At the end of the season, the dorados are obliged to leave and necessarily pass through the narrower areas. By looking a little more, we will target everything that can create lines of concentration very narrow .

  • Tightening a bridge, a fishing port, are often the opportunity to take advantage of a narrowing of the quay.
  • Turns in a harbor, when the wharf deviates, the angle it forms gives a more open access to the area, the fish often follow the bottom which is structured by the current.
  • Background lines the major currents in a sector eat away at the bottom until they create real lines that are often called banks. They are characterized by cuts in the bottom that are used by the dorados in practice. It is important to know where to place yourself, but to do so, it is still necessary to make some scouting.

Choosing the right time

For the dorado fisherman, the right time to fish is above all the time when you can fish, where you have decided. Of course, there are more favorable moments than others in a day, but at the end of the season, the dorados join the sea in a massive way. The problem that we encounter is essentially to find a place to fish, especially if we are selective on the fishing area.

Expect to wait to take the place of another fisherman who drops out, and above all, remain confident. Just because an angler leaves a spot, doesn't mean there's nothing to catch. The dorados come out in successive waves.

During the month that concerns us, it is necessary to be aware that certain conditions favor the exit of the dorados. The main factor is the water temperature. The onshore winds are therefore the main cause of the migration. A cool onshore wind is invariably accompanied by massive outflows. It is therefore essential to remain in ambush, and if possible, to reach the water when these refreshments point the tip of their nose.

It should be added that during these few weeks of intense activity, there are always an unpredictable number of passages more interesting than others.
