Presentation of the redfish
Its scientific name is Helicolenus dactylopterus, the redfish immediately makes us think of a scorpion fish. Of the scorpenidae family, the redfish has a rather compressed body covered with scales. Its color is predominantly red-orange and its belly is pink. It has two large globular eyes placed towards the top of the head to better see the preys or the predators which progress above the bottom.

Goatfish, northern scorpion fish, cardoon or Mediterranean redfish, it is a small deep-sea fish. The average size of a redfish is about 20 centimeters, but it is possible to find fish that are over 40 centimeters long.
In major funds
The redfish is a benthic fish that can be found from a depth of 50 meters to a depth of more than 500 meters. It likes rocky bottoms, but it can also be found near sandy-muddy bottoms. Redfish like to live in schools and it is not uncommon to double up when targeting them.
Redfish fishing
Redfish are fished vertically on bottoms between 50 and 200 meters, they can be fished deeper, but this requires special equipment such as an electric reel.

Redfish can be caught with lures such as slow-jigs, but they are more commonly caught with baits such as maddai-jigs. The best baits are pieces of sardine or mackerel, and strips of squid.
The tackle and leaders used to fish for redfish will have to be able to withstand tougher than expected battles, because when fishing at such depths, it is not uncommon to run into other species of fish that are much larger and more combative.
Moreover, the choice of the reel is important, because it will have to contain nearly 200 meters of braid while having a strong ratio to limit the efforts to the rise. An important point not to be neglected if you want to target redfish throughout a session.
