The sun pole presentation
The sun perch (Lepomis gibbosus) is a North American fish that does not have a good reputation. Very present in a large part of France, it is classified as a harmful species. It is therefore forbidden to release it and to use it as a live. From the Centrarchidae family, it is a small fish with atypical patterns and colors. Blue, green, yellow and orange the dress of the sunfish is of a strange beauty. A sun perch can live more than 5 years.
It rarely exceeds 20 centimeters. A gregarious fish, the sun perch moves in small schools. When the water warms up, it is not uncommon to observe a school of sun perch chasing small fry near the edges. Their breeding season is in late spring and early summer.
An omnivorous fish
The sun perch is an opportunistic fish that feeds on worms, insect larvae, small mollusks or fry. It is classified as a pest because its voracity poses a danger to the proper reproduction of other species. The sun perch has a small mouth directed upwards and pounces on everything that passes within its reach.
Where to find the sun pole ?
The sun perch likes calm or stagnant water. There are few bodies of water where this species is not present. The sun perch tends to move closer to the shore when the water starts to warm up and during the summer. It can then evolve on very small funds.
