In summer, enjoy snorkelling and fishing

Snorkeling is a great way to see your fishing grounds from a different angle. Summer is the best time to put on your flippers, mask and snorkel and set off to observe the aquatic fauna that surrounds us.

A wide range of environments

When the waters are warm, it's more pleasant to put your head underwater and stay there longer to observe what's going on. Lakes, shallower or deeper rivers, take advantage of your bathing time to try to understand and analyze the different biotopes you usually frequent with a rod in hand.

In the sea, too, summer is the best time to go snorkeling, and the water is usually clear.

In any case, try to choose quiet spots to increase your chances of seeing fish. Most fish tend to avoid crowded beaches in summer.

Of course, snorkeling means taking no unnecessary risks, and it's best to do it in pairs, especially if you want to do some freediving.

How to observe properly?

To make the most of your outing with flippers, avoid making any noise or sudden movements at all costs. As soon as you enter the water, try to be as discreet as possible, slipping in slowly so as not to scare off any fish near the shore. Once in the water, try to imagine yourself as a fish, or failing that, a marine mammal, moving quietly and easily in its environment. In this way, you'll be able to discover the natural behavior of the different species that inhabit the areas you're exploring, without causing stress.

If the water is warm enough, you can simply drift or tread water to observe what's going on below and around you.

Lessons to be learned

During your various outings in PMT (Palmes-Masque-Tuba) you will notice several important elements for your fishing trips:

  • The number of species in the spots
  • The depth at which these different species evolve
  • Potential prey
  • Feeding behavior of target fish
  • Breaks or other obstacles that may contain fish
  • Obstacles to avoid if you don't want to snag your lines
  • Your next trophy fish...

And maybe even recover the lures you lost on your last outings.
