The dogfish or garfish is an excellent fish to start fishing in the sea. It is often found near the surface. This rig, which floats a piece of mackerel on a float, is unstoppable and fun!
The assembly
The garfish is a pelagic fish evolving just below the surface and about two meters below the surface. This sliding float rig allows us to adjust the depth of our mackerel slat to the desired depth.
It is composed of a sliding float and a stop-float. The 40 cm nylon leader has a shiny hook for a small strip of mackerel. The long shank hook allows you to hook the fresh mackerel strip in two times.

- reel braid 0.12 to 0.17 mm
- height adjustable stop-float
- sliding float 25 g
- olive 10 or 15 g
- pearl
- swivel
- nylon 0.25 to 0.35 mm
- hook n°2 to 1/0 straight with long shank in stainless steel
- slice of mackerel
Use of the assembly
On the dykes and piers, the mount simply fishes at our feet. From the coastal rocks, you can cast to about thirty meters. Let the float drift and check the bait every 10 minutes.

The material
The choice of the material is simple. The rod measures 2,40 to 3 m and its casting weight is from 10 to 60 g. Its action is rather soft (semi-parabolic). The reel size 1000 to 4500 (depending on the brand) weighs 200 to 500 g and contains at least 100 m of floating braid from 0.12 to 0.17 mm.

A useful tip for successful fishing
When you run out of bait, you can cut a slice directly into a garfish that you have just caught, this cannibal fish will not be deprived of tasting it. Fishing for garfish with a float is simple and gives good results.
