A simple and versatile technique

A simple method to practice in kayak, whether it is with lures, jigs or lures bait type madaï or kabura. A technique that addresses all kinds of targets. Very used on our spots with lees, it allows to prospect a significant layer of water, while leaving the bottom.
For the place, it is done either with soft lures or jigs. The method consists in letting the lure make contact with the bottom and then to go up very quickly of 1 meter to avoid the clinging on the substrate. The right weight is the one that will allow you to animate the lure as vertically as possible.
If the weight of the lead head is too light, your line will take an angle with the drift or the current, which will create a belly in the line. This will delay you in getting the information of the hit that goes up to the blank of the rod, the strike is then often too late.

Fishing action
Once the right weight is found, the line will be pulled up 3 or 4 meters, then you make a stop of a few seconds. And you do it again several times, increasing or decreasing the retrieve speed. I do it this way up to half the height of the water I'm prospecting in.

The depths where I practice range from 20 to 50 meters. The fish will rarely come up to the surface on such depths because of the decompression. The touch often occurs at the time of the stop or the restart of the animation, it is necessary to be ready permanently. It can also occur on the way down, keep in touch with the line and strike at the slightest "slack" felt. The lures used for the place are often sandeel type, the favorite prey of these fish off the coast of Brittany.

The animation will be the same for the jigs, with sometimes a variation. From time to time you can bring the jig down a few meters to make it twirl, it will look like a wounded fish with an erratic swim.

This method also gives excellent results with lures like Kabura or Madai. The Kabura dressed with squid tentacles will attract all kinds of fish by animating it, pike, bream, pollack, sea bass, cephalopods, bonito, they will not remain indifferent to this animation.

This technique will not only help you catch fish, but it will also help you leave fewer lures to redecorate the ocean floor. Most lures are even more attractive when handled the right way.
Moreover, kayak fishing is an action fishing and this method allows you to be in continuous movement. So don't hesitate, take the elevator.
