Open Labrax 2026: The Mercury Pro Team on the Podium in Morlaix

Three weeks after a strong performance at the Trophée Fish à l'Affiche in Bréhat, the Mercury Pro Team continues to show great form. Jérôme Laurent and Nicolas Kervengant took third place at the Open Labrax PSL 2026, held in Morlaix Bay, following two demanding and particularly competitive rounds.

A first round marked by strategy

The Bay of Morlaix hosted another edition of the Open Labrax PSL, a boat-based sea bass fishing competition where knowledge of fishing spots, the ability to assess conditions, and tactical decisions often make all the difference.

Starting on Saturday, Jérôme Laurent and Nicolas Kervengant had to contend with rough seas and strong winds. Despite these challenging conditions, the two anglers from the Mercury Pro Team quickly found their footing. By 10:30 a.m., they had reached their quota, with an average size of 50 cm.

But the Bretons know that this initial catch probably won?t be enough to make it to the podium. So they decide to change areas and target some rock outcrops they spotted during their reconnaissance. It?s a strategy that pays off, with two sea bass measuring 52 cm.

In the final minutes, a return to their starting zone allowed them to further improve their score with two magnificent catches measuring 54.6 and 53.6 cm. With a reported average of 54 cm, the team finished the first day tied for fourth place in the provisional standings.

A second decisive day for the podium

On Sunday, the Mercury Pro Team changed up their strategy. This time, Jérôme Laurent and Nicolas Kervengant focused on deeper areas, looking for fish that could help them move up in the rankings.

The choice quickly proved to be a wise one. The two competitors caught three beautiful sea bass measuring 59, 57, and 56 cm, one after another, along with two more fish measuring 50 cm.

Although they've already met their quota, the two fishermen keep at it until the very last moment in an effort to improve their catch. Their consistency and ability to adapt are ultimately rewarded.

At the end of the two rounds, Jérôme Laurent and Nicolas Kervengant took third place on the podium at the 2026 Open Labrax PSL %E2euros%93 Baie de Morlaix.

Two podium finishes in three weeks for the Mercury Pro Team

This latest third-place finish confirms the excellent momentum of the Breton duo. Just three weeks after their podium finish at the Trophée Fish à l'Affiche in Bréhat, the two Mercury ambassadors have once again demonstrated their mastery of sportfishing for sea bass.

Beyond the result itself, this performance illustrates the importance of preparation, knowledge of the various sectors, and constant adaptation to the conditions encountered at sea.

For the Mercury Pro Team, this second podium finish in three weeks is a great achievement and confirms its competitiveness in major French boat-based sea bass fishing tournaments.

This success was also made possible by the efforts of the organizers, volunteers, and officials of the Open Labrax PSL, who worked tirelessly to ensure that the 2026 event ran smoothly.

With this third-place finish in Morlaix Bay, Jérôme Laurent and Nicolas Kervengant continue their strong run and are establishing themselves as a crew to watch in upcoming offshore fishing competitions.
