Spinning or Casting: find the rod that suits you
Whether you are a spinning or casting angler, a rod that is adapted to your body type and the boat you are fishing from will be much less tiring to use during violent jigging. The goal is to fish as long as possible.
From a boat, a spinning rod will be very effective. Being able to fish standing up is a very important asset to limit the fatigue in the arms and back during animations. I personally fish from a kayak when I fish with a jig, so I use a casting set that allows me to animate more easily from a sitting position.
For Mediterranean fishing, I recommend a rod between 30 and 50 lbs which will be used to look for dentis or amberjack. As far as length is concerned, for spinning, the ideal rod is between 1.70 m and 2.00 m and can jig up to 250 grams. In casting, it is preferable to choose a rod of about 1.90 m and to limit the power to jigs of 200 grams for a question of comfort.

Which reel to choose ?
The reel is an important part of the package. Jigging requires a reel with a low ratio that can store a large amount of braid. A high ratio will facilitate fast animation, but a low ratio will be an asset during fights. It is very difficult to reel with a large ratio when there is a lot of tension on the line during the fight with a big fish.
If you decide to opt for a casting kit, I recommend a reel that can be filled with at least 300 meters of braid in 30 lb. In case spinning is more suitable for you, the same amount of braid will be needed, but this time you can choose a 50 lb resistance.

Select your braid
When fishing in depths exceeding 50 meters, the banner in the braid created by the current prevents us from animating the jig correctly. To limit the impact of this problem, you can increase the weight of the jig, but the animations will become much more tiring.
The best solution is to reduce the diameter of the braid, there are nowadays very efficient 8 strand braids, but the technological advances of the last few years now allow the use of 12 strand braids. They are capable of resisting a greater force at the same diameter. Therefore, for the same resistance, the 12-strand braid will be thinner and will create much less banner in the water. With this major advantage, you will no longer need to increase the weight of the jig to fish effectively.
