"Les poissons d'eau douce de France" is the fruit of decades of scientific work by teams from the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle in partnership with the OFB (Office Français pour la Biodiversité), among others, and coordinated by Philippe Keith, President of the Société française d'ichtyologie.
This second edition is an update, 10 years on, of the first, itself corresponding to a much-enriched version of the "Atlas of French freshwater fish" published in 2001. This new version incorporates the very latest data on our dear scaly friends, particularly with regard to their distribution.

Like any good scientific work, this 704-page bible is rigorously structured, starting with a review of fish evolution, followed by a look at the history of fish populations in mainland France. The book continues with a chapter on the ecology of fish in continental hydrosystems, followed by another on the management of freshwater fish and hydrosystems, and a fifth on the genetics and phylogeography of French freshwater fish.
At this point we have reached the 250 ème page, the other 450 pages take the form of a precise, well-documented guide listing and presenting in detail all the freshwater fish species in France. Certainly the most comprehensive work on the subject in France.

This book will be of interest to both professional scientists and beginner or experienced naturalist anglers wishing to perfect their knowledge of fish, their environment and the functioning of aquatic environments, as well as to anyone in contact with freshwater fish (fish farmers or environmental mediators in particular). In short, we highly recommend this book!
