Nose Rigged mounts, when simplicity rhymes with efficiency!

The Weightless Nose Rig and its weighted variant, the Furiko Rig (or Pendulum Rig), are two "Finesse" rigs derived from black-bass fishing and specially used to deceive the vigilance of wary fish in clear waters. In France, their use is highly recommended!

Weightless mounting Vs ballasted mounting

In both cases, the lure is hooked through the nose (Nose Rigged) in the same way as in Drop Shot, the main advantage of which is to give the lure maximum freedom. The difference is that with the Weigthless Nose Rig, the lure is hooked onto a single hook, whereas the Furiko Rig uses a weighted head Inch Wacky between approx. 0.5 and 3.5 g (weight depending on depth, water layer and trailer weight). The former is best used close to the surface for sight fishing and the latter on the bottom.

Sinking lure Vs Floating lure

Since the Weightless Nose Rig is an unweighted rig, we're going to rely on the "natural" characteristics of the lures: mainly their suppleness and density. Salt lures should therefore be selected, as salt has the dual advantage of making the lures sink and making them more palatable (when you're targeting wary fish, every detail counts). It's also important for lures to be able to undulate at the slightest touch, so they should be long and straight.

2) Flying Squirrel - Big Bite Baits

3) Lizard - Trigger X

As far as colors are concerned, I prefer natural and dark colors, the ones black bass are particularly fond of.

Initially, the Furiko Rig has been designed for the animation of small Finess soft lures with holographic sides to imitate as naturally as possible the attitude of a dying fish. A particularly realistic Finess soft lure is the Berkley Drop Shot Minnow. The initial idea was to give the lure a rolling action on the spot, making its holographic sides shimmer. In contrast to the Weightless Nose Rig, you'll want to use floating lures that resist the stress of the weighted head and present themselves optimally.

Nevertheless, you can deviate from the basic characteristics and use any type of lure, as long as they are "Finesse" lures, in order to remain in the spirit of the âeuros technique and in particular those presented above, the only limit being your imagination. Given that, like all "Finesse" techniques, we're looking for realism and therefore use lures with natural colors that don't "call out" to fish from afar, the Furiko Rig should be reserved for clear waters first and foremost.

Entertainment

Visit Weightless Nose Rig plays on the lure's natural characteristics, which is why the lure needs to be rather long and very supple so as to be very responsive to animations based on light pulls and Twitchs.

The typical Weightless Nose Rig animation pattern is as follows: 1) I detect a fish 2) I cast my rig close to the fish 3) I let the lure sink naturally for a few seconds before starting to animate it 4) I twitch the lure several times until the fish is interested in it and then I stop. 5) If the fish approaches the lure but doesn't take it then I print 1 or 2 Twitchs on the lure to trigger the strike and it usually hits!

For the Furiko Rig with the Weightless Nose Rig, you can animate the lure at different heights and therefore comb through different layers of water depending on the weight of the weighted head, but in my opinion this rig really comes into its own as a complement to the Weightless Nose Rig, which is why I reserve it for bottom animation based on the following pattern: sawtooth animation interspersed with Shaking animation on the bottom.

Sobriety in materials

Une canne légère est particulièrement indiquée pour ces montages.
A lightweight rod is particularly suitable for these set-ups.

Considering that these techniques will be applied mainly from the shore, rods with a minimum length of 2m and up to 2m20 are preferable to achieve suitable casting distances. In terms of power, UL and L rods are ideal for precision. Reels in sizes 1000 to 2000 "spooled" with fine, very regular braid (6 to 8/100) will go perfectly with these rods. For even greater discretion, fluorocarbon leaders up to 25/100 are ideal. Finally, as with all "Finesse" techniques, I banish the use of staples, which, however small they may be, make the rig too heavy and coarse and, when scraping on the bottom, lead to a loss of sensitivity.

Nose Rig and Furiko Rig are two complementary approaches: technical, sober, playful and formidably effective. A must try!
