Scaffold knot: easy to tie, strong, and tightens further under pressure

To fish with complete peace of mind and fight beautiful fish without hesitating to rein them in, you need to have total confidence in your gear?and especially in your knots. Sliding knots are particularly reassuring in this regard, because the more pressure increases, the tighter they become.

The Scaffold knot is a simple knot to tie that takes the form of a slipknot. This means that the more tension is applied, the tighter it becomes. This is very reassuring during a fight, as it eliminates the fear that the knot might come undone.

This knot can be used to tie on a lure, but also a hook.

For better visibility, I made this tutorial using 40/100 fluorescent yarn.

Here's how to do it:

Step 1

Thread your line through the eye of your hook.

Step 2

Hold the loose end and the main line between your fingers to form a loop. Position the loose end toward the hook.

Step 3

Wrap the loop around once, then pinch it between your fingers.

Step 4

Make a second loop, then a third, making sure to keep them between your fingers the whole time.

Step 5

Next, thread the string through your loops, from the bottom up.

Step 6

Wet the knot and tighten it by pulling on the loose end.

Step 7

Pull on the main line to slide the knot up to your lure or hook, then tighten it by pulling on that line. The harder you pull, the tighter it gets.

Finally, trim off the excess.

Benefits

  • Solid.
  • Easy to make.
  • It's very safe, because the slipknot design causes it to tighten more and more.
