The Pitzen knot, connecting a hook, a staple or a lure

The Pitzen knot is quick and easy to make, and is particularly strong for connecting your lure or a staple. Many anglers now use it, and I recommend you give it a try.

The Pitzen knot can be tied in seconds once you've "got the hang of it", and is extremely strong.

For greater visibility, I've made this tutorial with 40/100 fluorescent thread.

Here's how to do it:

Step 1

Pass your line through the eye of your lure or staple and back over the main line.

Step 2

Pass the thread back under the main strand.

Step 3

Form a loop and hold it between your thumb and forefinger.

Step 4

Make 5 turns around the first loop down towards your lure.

Step 5

Pass the free strand back through the loop held between your fingers.

Step 6

Moisten the knot with saliva and tighten.

All that's left to do is cut off the excess and your knot is complete.
