Connecting a teaser to a fishing line: the loop stem knot

The surgeon's knot, seen above, requires the use of two different lines. However, it's perfectly possible to tie a teaser on your main line or, for bait anglers, to create a loop to attach a stack. This is the loop stem knot.

This knot allows a teaser to be set up on its main line, minimizing the risk of tangles. It works like the surgeon's knot but using only the main line.

However, it is particularly effective for bait fishing rigs, as it allows you to connect a leader (with a loop-in-loop knot), or even break or change it, without having to redo the whole rig.

Here's how to do it with a teaser. For bait fishing, simply tie the same knot without a hook.

Step 1:

Pass your line through the eye of the hook and form a loop.

Step 2:

With one side of the wire, make 3 turns around the main wire.

Step 3:

Do the same with the other strand, but in the opposite direction of the loop. Be sure to keep the area between your fingers where you started your coils to create a small loop, or at least a space...

Step 4:

Pass the hook and associated loop (in the case of bait fishing, you'll pass only the loop) through the central space.

Step 5:

Moisten it with saliva and start tightening gradually, pulling on both sides of the knot.

Step 6:

Tighten completely, moistening again if necessary, and you're done. For bait fishing, all that's left to do is attach your leader to the loop.

For a better presentation of your teaser, remember to make the hook point upwards (the line that runs towards the reel).

Highlights :

  • No other wires required.
  • Leaves room for the teaser and ensures good presentation.
  • Allows easy leader changes for bait fishing.

Weakness:

  • Requires practice to be performed easily.
