Using a fluorocarbon leader behind the braid also increases the number of hits. Fluorocarbon is not very visible in the water and vibrates less than braid. To make strong casts with braid, it's important to tie the right knot, one that draws the fluorocarbon strand out towards the braid (reel) and not the fluorocarbon.
With an albright knot, it's difficult to cast with 8-strand braid without encountering some casting problems. This is because the excess fluorocarbon comes out in the direction of the head rings and comes up against them when casting. This "smooth knot" avoids this phenomenon, allowing you to cast with confidence and benefit from the gliding performance of modern 8- and 12-strand braids.
Tie a single knot with the fluorocarbon and pass through the braid. Make 6 to 8 spaced turns with the braid, then repeat the same number of turns, returning to the initial single knot. Tighten the single knot, then moisten before pulling simultaneously and progressively on the 2 braid strands.
